The Seventh High Performance Organizations Performance Improvement Conference will be held May 5-8, 2009 at the Omni hotel in downtown Charlottesville, VA. It will start at 1 PM Tuesday and end after lunch on Friday. The number of conference participants will be limited based on conference facilities and meeting room size, so register early to ensure your participation; see registration details, below.
Current conference topics include:
ü Real stories with dedicated interaction time about how local and federal governments engage employees during their improvement journeys
ü How to program and build a successful “change function” in your organization
ü Senior Executive panel and discussions
ü Understanding how engagement happens at each level of the organization
ü HPO Diagnostic Change Model updates
The conference format provides:
q Opportunities to network and connect with others in the HPO community
q Sharing with others similar experiences of successes and frustrations
q An atmosphere to energize and calibrate your own efforts
q Community room to share references, methods, and tools
q Fun and laughter for all
The current team of conference chairs include: Phil Harnden (CCHPO), Tony Gardner (Cooper Center and CCHPO), Wayne Sommer (ICMA), and Deborah Roberts (Cooper Center). Contact one of the conference chairs for additional information.
Please note that this is intended to be a working seminar and all participants are expected to participate in the working sessions! You are also encouraged to bring materials and examples to share with other conference participants in the “Community Room.”

Conference Registration Fees (including all meals except one dinner):
ü Early registration is available at $1,175 per person through April 1, 2009.
ü Normal registration fee is $1,300 per person; presenters selected by the conference chairs will receive a discount to $1,125 for normal registration and $1,000 for early bird registrations (no more than two speaker discounts per topic).
ü Groups of 3 or more from the same organization receive a 15% discount depending on when they register (normal or early bird).
ü Multiple discounts can be discussed with Tony Gardner (click to email Tony).
The registration fee includes all sessions, materials, and meals from Tuesday lunch through lunch on Friday, except for one dinner. That evening will be open for you to enjoy the many restaurant selections at the adjacent Main Street Mall in downtown Charlottesville. Note that the registration fee does not include housing; a block of rooms has been set-aside at the Charlottesville Omni, at the federal government per diem rate of $100 per night single ($115 double), plus taxes, on a first come basis. The last day to make reservations at this rate is Monday, April 20, 2009.

The Commonwealth Centers for High-Performance Organizations, Inc in association with the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the Federal Executive Association and the International City/County Management Association, is pleased to announce that the Seventh High Performance Organizations Performance Improvement Conference will be held in Charlottesville, VA.
Registration will begin on Tuesday morning, May 5, 2009, at the Charlottesville Omni Hotel, with the first conference session on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The conference will end on Friday, May 8, after lunch. Lunch will be provided on Tuesday as you register.

FROM CHARLOTTESVILLE AIRPORT – 15 MILES
Make a right off of Airport Road. Follow route 29 South for 8 miles to Route 250 Bypass East. Take 250 Bypass East to third stoplight. Turn right on McIntire Road. Go 7/10 mile to the second stoplight. Go through the stoplight and the hotel will be on the left.

DIRECTIONS FROM RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – 80 MILES
Take 295 West to I-64 West. Stay on 64 West to exit 120 Charlottesville/5th Street. Turn right from the exit ramp. Go approximately three miles or through five stop lights. Hotel is on right.
DIRECTIONS FROM REAGAN/NATIONAL AIRPORT – 115 MILES
Take Route 66 West for 22 miles until you get to the 29 South exit. Follow 29 South until you reach the 250 Bypass East, go to third stoplight. Turn right onto McIntire Road. Go 7/10 mile to the second stoplight. Go through stoplight and the hotel is on the left.
DIRECTIONS FROM WASHINGTON DULLES AIRPORT – 105 MILES
From the airport take 28 South to 29 South for 90 miles to route 250 Bypass East. From Route 250 East go to third stoplight. Turn right onto McIntire Road. Go 7/10 mile to the second stoplight. Go through stoplight and the hotel is on the left.
DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH –VIA ROUTE 29 SOUTH
Take Route 29 South into Charlottesville to Route 250 Bypass East. Take 250 Bypass East to third stoplight, turn right onto McIntire Road. Go 7/10 mile to the second stop light. Go through the stoplight and the hotel is on the left.
DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH – VIA ROUTE 29 NORTH
Take Route 29 North to Route 250 Bypass East (29 North will turn into 250 Bypass East). Take 250 Bypass East to third stoplight, turn right onto McIntire Road. Go 7/10 mile to the second stop light. Go through the stoplight and the hotel is on the left.

Climate:
The Charlottesville spring season is a special time for a visit. The temperature in May ranges, on average, from 53 to 74 degrees. While restaurants do not require ties for the gentlemen, a collared shirt is recommended.
