Emotional Intelligence (EI) Pilot Held at NASA-Dryden Flight Research Center

The initial Emotional Intelligence (EI) 3-day pilot session was held December 7-9, 2004 for the top 30 managers at NASA-Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base by Larry Kokkelenberg and Gerry Brokaw from the CCHPO network. NAVAIR China Lake will host the second pilot January 18-20, 2005 in Ridgecrest, Califonia.

Session Outline and Summary

LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

What does Emotional Intelligence (EI) have to do with developing a leadership philosophy? Everything! EI is the essence of how you treat people, build relationships, develop trust, lead others, and manage conflict. Being sensitive to both your own emotional states and those of others will allow you to be a true leader as opposed to one in title only. Being emotionally intelligent will allow you to perform the leadership and managerial functions far more effectively then if you were emotionally immature.

This program will cover:

  • The study of Emotional Intelligence
  • Basic brain development and neuroscience
  • Emotional systems
  • Leadership responsibilities
  • Personal development, life purpose statements, values
  • Awareness of self
  • Awareness of others
  • Management of your own emotions
  • Management of other’s emotions
  • Avoiding Emotional Hijacks
  • Using emotions constructively
  • Building relationships, being authentic, having empathy, being sensitive and their contribution to performance

This intense program, reviewing scientific research in medicine, biology, and neuroscience, will define the nature of emotions and our emotional systems. You will learn to identify your own emotions and those of others, and then manage those emotions to make better decisions and build more trusting and stronger leadership traits and relationships.

This is a three day curriculum and participants must be there for the entire three days. No admission to anyone who misses day one.
